“Firstly I would like to give a little background. In June of 2021 I (Greg’s dad) had a serious back problem
which required me to be sent to Vancouver for emergency surgery. I ended up being in hospital for 69
days. Luckily for me I had contacted CLBC months before and my youngest son Jeremy was able to
contact them to see what they could do for my handicapped son Gregory. Gregory at the time was 45
years old. I live alone with Gregory so my absence was a real problem. CLBC lined up NLaing Services for
Greg’s care. This worked out great. Norm or one of his employees came during the day to spend time
with Greg and take him out into the community. Norm’s support worker took Greg out into the
community and did many different things. Over time, Gregory really got to enjoy these outings and he
began to become a lot less introverted. His communication skills and social skills were greatly improved.
Greg’s original support worker has since left the company and the new worker is extremely good at her
job. She has gotten Greg to do many new things like helping make lunch, cleaning up his lunch dishes,
washing his hands and some self grooming. These are things that he never did before. She also is getting
Greg to use a tablet and he now loves his Nintendo Switch (all new to Greg). She also makes sure that he
gets plenty of walking exercise either at the mall, outdoor or indoor track. This has been very good for
Greg. He looks forward to the days when his support worker comes. He is dressed and has his shoes on
and ready to go when she walks in the door.
Overall, the level of professionalism shown by Norm, and staff has been extremely high. I highly
recommend this service to anyone.”

Norm has provided all services needed and requested for my daughter. Specifically, he has
implemented all PAC recommendations which has led to a steady growth in my daughter’s ability to function more effectively in the home and in the community.
Her physical health has improved immensely with the implementation of a diet plan and an exercise plan that has resulted in a much healthier and happier life for her.
Norm and my daughter have developed a relationship that is built on trust and respect. This is a first for my daughter; she can relax and trust that all is well as she is included in planning whenever possible.
Norm provides many hours of hands-on training for new staff. He hires and retains staff who have excellent “relationship building” skills. These efforts result in smooth transitions for my daughter which results in little, if any, behaviour issues. Norm consistently “tunes in” to the home atmosphere and makes necessary changes and/or recommendations to staff if needed.
Norm has accommodated my daughter’s health care needs, making appointments as needed. He takes her to do her banking and has developed a procedure that is easy for my daughter, especially in terms of her being able to perform banking tasks independently.
Norm recently drove my daughter to my home on his day off so that she could reunite with relatives that she hadn’t seen for a very long time. It was a very meaningful visit for my daughter. My daughter loves to travel, Norm budgets and goes above and beyond to make small trips a priority in her life. He goes out of his way to ensure that my daughter partakes in community events, Special Olympics, swimming, choir, and endless visits to the beaches and trails; there is nothing that she loves more than walking trails and beach combing. Additionally, she visits Butchard Gardens, Butterfly World, Bug World, Big Splash, and from time to time, special events and performances that come to town. All of these activities are opportunities for community involvement and personal enrichment.
Because Norm and his staff are highly professional, compassionate, and very skilled, I never worry about my daughter’s well-being. Prior to entering NLaing Services I was constantly checking in on my daughter’s safety, health and medical condition. I am now free to ask questions, know exactly what is going on in her life and never wonder if she is being taken advantage of or mistreated. Norm is open to informal discussions with me whenever I request a meeting. Communication is frequent by email, texting and phone calls. When we discuss changes in the program that would enhance her experiences, health, etc., I never check on implementation as I know that Norm has the situation in hand and will take care of any concerns. My life has improved remarkably since choosing NLaing Services because I know that my daughter’s life is safe, relaxed, healthy and that she is living the best life possible with the best care provider I have ever known!
